Exciting Things Are Happening Around Here!

The beginning of 2025 will see new windows in the second-floor Atrium space (formerly the Interpretative Center). But, that's not all! Plans are also in the works to begin the HVAC project in the theatre in 2025. This work will greatly improve the overall comfort of the space and will likely include setting the foundation for a service elevator behind the stage as well as new theatre seating! This portion of the project will be extensive and will position us for the next phases of restoration including the Proscenium Arch and a theatrical fly system. Thus, not only does each step get us closer to our goal of completely restoring this Jewel of the Black Hills, but each step allows us to more fully engage our mission of providing art, cultural, and educational opportunities right here in Lead, South Dakota.

As we consider the holiday season and the promise of a New Year, we have the opportunity to reflect on the beauty and power of community. During this time, we are invited to celebrate what we have been able to accomplish together as we look toward the future and consider our unique art ecology. The year we leave behind has been one of transition for the Homestake Opera House, but also one of growth and promise. We have welcomed new leadership, moved forward in our commitment to fully restore this Jewel of the Black Hills, remained an active theatrical and entertainment space, and have engaged in comprehensive strategic planning that will guide us toward greater diversity and sustainability as an organization. We hope, as you consider the Historic Homestake Opera House, that you are excited and inspired to join us in fostering art, culture, and education in the Northern Hills and building a beautiful future for our community. Your generosity of time, talent, and treasure sustains our work and we are deeply humbled and grateful to be on this journey with you. We wish you a joy-filled holiday season and a beautiful New Year.If you would like to make a year-end charitable gift to the Homestake Opera House, you may donate through our website or send your donations to:
